Happy New Year!
Can you believe it’s 2018 already? 2017 literally just whizzed by
Before you know it, we will be saying happy new year again in the year 2020.
Everything seems to be “changing constantly”
“I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.” Ecclesiastes 9:11
I’ve learnt that as seasons change in the physical so also they change in the spiritual. The same way a baby becomes a child, then teenager and finally adult, is the same way God expects us to grow up spiritually. For this reason, He orchestrates times and seasons in our lives to accomplish certain developmental milestones in our spirit man. However, if we are ignorant of the hand of God in our lives, like the Israelites a journey that is meant to take 17 days may end up taking 40 years.
It is so important that we are watchful of the changing seasons in our lives and adjust appropriately.
“To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: 2 A time to be born, And a time to die, A time to plant, And a time to pluck what is planted;” Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
We don’t want to be harvesting when its time to be planting. We can’t afford to move ahead or lag behind in God’s plan for us. If we are to operate in line with the will of God for our lives, we need to be sensitive to his voice and understand his principles.
This is something I noticed about Jesus’ ministry. He didn’t just go with the flow, he ensured that everything he did was in line with the word of God.
The story that really explained this concept to me was the story where Jesus fed 5000 people. After Jesus had performed this miracle, the people were so amazed that they wanted to make him a king. But Jesus withdrew (John 6:15). He didn’t say, “Well, the prophecy says I will be king of the Jews, so surely this must be it.”
I’m not sure how many people would turn down an offer to be the president or prime minister of a country just like that. But Jesus had a revelation of the timing of the Father and he understood the nature of the word that had gone forth about Him.
The truth is that the enemy is a master of imitation and deception. If we are unsure about the word and will of God for our lives, he will distract us with something that looks similar to what God has said to us but when we look close enough we see that it is inferior and leads to destruction.
“There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” Proverbs 16:25
Never be in a hurry to go a certain way even though it seems like it will work out well. At the same time, don’t be afraid to step out in faith and make changes in your life. It’s about knowing what to do and when you ought to do it. This will come through the counsel of the Holy Spirit. So don’t be too scared or too proud to ask. Ask and even if you think you are not getting an answer, press in. And I trust that God will give you an answer in due season.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;” Proverbs 3:5
