Do you know that once the enemy can trick you into thinking that your interests and God’s interest are not aligned, he can successfully deprive you of living a fulfilled life?
When I realised this, it struck me that this is one of the oldest and most used tricks in his book.
It dawned on me that is was this exact same trick he used on Eve in the Garden of Eden.
He only had to place a little doubt in her mind about God’s intentions for her and her husband. And he succeeded in getting her to wonder whether God was really just trying to limit them.
Gen 3:4-5 “Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will surely not die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil” [NKJV]
If only Eve had taken a minute to think…… maybe God had a reason for giving them that commandment; Perhaps we would be telling a different tale today.
And this same trick is still as effective now as it was back then. And sadly, many of us are still falling for it.
John 10:10 “The thief does not come but to steal, to kill and to destroy…” [NKJV]
Just like he did with Eve, the enemy has deceived us into thinking that aligning our interests with God’s interest will only slow us down and limit us.
That spending time with God will take up our time and make us less effective in the “real world”
That others will get ahead of us while we lag behind doing the work of God.
Well…I have some good news!
It is my pleasure to let you know that this is the worst lie we can ever believe. In fact, it is this very lie that prevents us from being all that we can be in the world.
Now let’s take a look at the truth…
Nobody wants the best for us more than our heavenly Father. And just like any Parent, when we succeed, we make God proud.
The best illustration I have of this is resonance, which is a concept in physics.
Basically, it means that vibrating an object at it natural frequency will cause it to generate the largest amplitude or energy.
In applying this analogy to our lives as children of God, our natural frequency is God’s plan for our lives because we were made by Him and he knows the purpose for which He has created us. This is why it is only when we operate in this frequency that we can live to our full potential.
Now you may ask, how about those who don’t know God and are making it big?
The answer to that is a whole blog post on its own but I’ll say this and I hope your imagination can run with it.
If they could make it that big “without God”, Can you imagine how big they would have made it with God?
Walking with God isn’t a limiting factor, it’s a multiplying factor.
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future” [NIV]
Sometimes, I feel this verse doesn’t really communicate the huge magnitude of God’s plans for us. It probably makes us think God is talking about small scale plans that make us end up as just “ok”
So I always pair it up with this next verse which just zooms in on what God is trying to say,
1 Cor 2:9 “… What no eye has not seen, what no ear has heard and what no human mind has conceived – the things God has prepared for those who love him” [NIV]
Are you excited yet? I know I am!
I’m not just listing a bunch of verses, I’m trying to paint a picture here.
I trying to make us see that the plans that God has for us are literally “out of this world”
Can you see why whatever alternative package the enemy offers us is inferior?
The enemy makes us set goals that are defined by what others before us have achieved.
Meanwhile, God offers us a life that will be a wonder to our generation and generations to come.
Matt 6:33 But Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well. [NIV]
God isn’t trying to play a quick one on us with this verse. What He is saying is that his kingdom and righteousness are actually keys to getting everything else in life.
It is in spending time with God, that we discover the promises in his Word that we can apply to our daily lives.
It is by acknowledging the Lord in all of our ways that we get wisdom to make the right decisions.
We need to involve God in every aspect of our lives. Let’s stop limiting God to church and bible study.
Ask Him what topic to study next for your upcoming exams…
Ask Him whether or not to apply for that promotion…
Ask Him what to say and ask Him when to say it…
Ask Him about everything.
I’ll end with this;
Acts 17:28 “For in Him we live and move and have our being …” [NIV]
I believe whole heartedly that consulting God and obeying His will in every aspect of our lives is the surest way to leave our mark of excellence in this generation and forever.
Thank you for reading, I hope you’ve been blessed.
